In many countries, ambulances aren’t readily available to bring injured people to medical centers. So, Benoit Angibaud designed the Jaambaaro, a pedal-powered ambulance that’s designed to help people in rural Africa transport the sick or injured to get medical attention.

It features a canopy for keeping people out of the sun and a stretcher that the injured can be loaded on. Then the driver hops in front, gets to pedaling, and off they go. It’d be a much cheaper alternative to a real ambulance, albeit one that would require a couple of able-bodied individuals to do a lot of work on. But hey, it could be the difference between life and death.

Kookmin Bank Intros M30 and M40 Music Card Players

Kookmin Bank Revealed M30 and M40 Music Card Players

A famous Korean bank (that’s right, bank) has entered the PMP manufacturing business. Their Music Card players, frankly, are quite original and have very attractive specs, especially the use of AMOLED and PMOLED displays. The KB M30 Music Card Player has a tiny PMOLED (passive matrix OLED) screen on the upper left, plays OGG, WAV and MP3, has a mic and touch sensitive keys. Cheap at only 30 euros. Form factor: 98.5 x 61 x 7.1 mm.

The KB M40 Music Card Player has a 2.4 “(320 x 240) AMOLED screen, FM tuner, T-DMB tuner, touch sensitive pad, support for  MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, JPG, MPEG4, JPEG, TXT and a price tag of 140 euros. Dimensions: 98.5 x 61 x 10.4 mm.

These seem like very basic players and so unlike most Korean PMPs and lacking in video support.Interesting how consumers will take to them.

The Public, West Bromwich, England is a new arts building designed by architect Will Alsop. As per the architect, the building is born out of the thought that for renewing a generation, architecture can act as a catalyst. It inspires new ideas from the creative users and in itself the building signifies the creators’ belief in art. It has five levels and the building caters to various creative heads to explore their creativity. It’s intended to be a center for people to take part in art projects, and also engaging in learning wide range of skills and subjects, with special emphasis being given to IT and digital arts.

The Public represents a radical gesture for community architecture, born from the conviction that art and architecture can be catalysts for regeneration and renewal. On five principal levels, the building is intended to give great scope to exhibition designers, artists, educators and users of all kinds, while encouraging and challenging all users to work in innovative ways. The Public is intended to inspire new ideas from its creative users rather than simply make way for them. The building itself is a statement of its creators’ belief in art, in the broadest sense, as a means to empower communities and individuals, and to permeate lives in surprising and beneficial ways.
