How to replace the Keyboard in the HP Compaq Presario CQ62 notebook

If you have damaged one or two of the letters of the keyboard of your compaq presario CQ62 notebook, you may like to replace the keyboard and get it working again. The first thing that you may like to do is to order the keyboard from ebay. You may get one for like $15 or so.

This method applies to all the Compaq Presario CQ2 based notebooks. These notebooks are characterized by a calculator button all way on the bottom left. This is also an annoying feature of this notebook as this place is generally reserved for the Control Key.

So here is the procedure

1. Remove the Battery. Make sure you remove the power supply chord before that.

2. Remove the cover of the back side of the computer that has a keyboard sign in the middle of it.

3. At this point you need to remove exactly 6 screws on the back side of the notebook. There is a keyboard sign next to the screws. The keyboard is screwed to these six screws.

4. Now turn to the top side of the noteboook.Use a flat head screw driver to take out the screw driver from the left and right side. The keyboard will come out easily.

5. Now place the new keyboard, insert the flat cable beneath it in the socket and place it down. Screw down everything you did. You should be ready now.

It looks like the keyboard was kind of snapped from the top. I was able to take it out with this procedure though, Thanks for your help. And yes, ebay is always help ful in such things – for older parts.
