In many countries, ambulances aren’t readily available to bring injured people to medical centers. So, Benoit Angibaud designed the Jaambaaro, a pedal-powered ambulance that’s designed to help people in rural Africa transport the sick or injured to get medical attention.
It features a canopy for keeping people out of the sun and a stretcher that the injured can be loaded on. Then the driver hops in front, gets to pedaling, and off they go. It’d be a much cheaper alternative to a real ambulance, albeit one that would require a couple of able-bodied individuals to do a lot of work on. But hey, it could be the difference between life and death.
